Vata Prakruti (Vata Constitution)

Physical Characteristics:

  • Dry, emaciated, disproportionate and under developed physique
  • Flat and depressed chest
  • Marked prominence of veins and tendons
  • Relatively fewer moles
  • Prominent bony ends (near the elbow and knees etc)
  • Minimum muscle tone, rough dark pale dusty complexion, cracked rough skin
  • Dry, lusterless and least amount of hair and eyelashes
  • Minimum prominence of eyeball, which may be dry and not white in color.
  • Cracked and rough nails
  • Usually have a rough voice, obstructed and shivering
  • Unsteady act, eating and movement
  • Unsteady joints, eyes, jaws, lips and head
  • Sensitive to cold climate. Suffers with chills, rigors and rigidity on exposure to cold or cold things like ice creams and cold drinks etc
 

Physiological Characteristics:

  • Variable appetite and digestion
  • Irregular and high food intake
  • Often attracted to astringent foods.
  • Less thirst
  • Less urination and sweating
  • Dry, hard stools followed by constipation
  • Tend to suffer from insomnia (sleeplessness)
  • Low temperature and least vital capacity
  • Walk, talk and think fast, but are easily fatigued

Psychological Characteristics:

  • Good grasping power but weak memory
  • Fickle minded
  • Lack courage, tolerance and confidence
  • When unbalanced, have a tendency to become fearful and nervous and may experience high anxiety
  • Weak reasoning power
  • Usually marked by irritable temperament and at the same time tend to be jovial
  • Quick and creative mind
  • Alert, restless and very active

They have a short life span, poor health and wealth, are weak and have less progeny. These people may suffer from disorders that include flatulence, tics, twitches, aching joints, dry skin and hair, nerve disorders, constipation and mental confusion. Vata tends to increase with age as is indicated by drying and wrinkling of the skin. Hence this is known as Heena (least) Prakruti.
